Sr. Safety Coordinator Requisition: 04657 Location: La Jolla, CAThe Scripps Research Institute is currently seeking a Sr. Safety Coordinator who is responsible for monitoring and updating the Institute’s environmental health and safety (EH&S) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety laws and regulations. Managed Services division of large staffing firm provides suite of staff management services to their clients. They are looking to enhance their safety and loss prevention programs. This position will manage all safety programs and activities. This role will manage the nation-wide safety team and focus on Loss Prevention. The Manager will be instrumental in establishing and enforcing the safety policy and procedures. Majority of role will involve:

Oversee the data integrity of RMIS system as it pertains to frequency of losses.

Responsible for developing and enforcing Loss Prevention (Safety) strategies.

Reduce Incident Reporting (IR) lag time.

Establish tracking program for the near miss incidents

Standardize/Optimize the Investigation process

Establish a Risk Assessment program (Proactive review of Incident trends or frequent offenders)

Who we seek:

Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.

OSHA training.

Job Title: EHS Manager   Location: Dallas, TX  This is an exciting opportunity to provide EHS support to a 350 employee manufacturing site in the Dallas, TX area.  Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety, or related field.
  • 5+ year’s experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food.
  • Experience implementing and managing safety initiatives for a large plant. Union experience preferred.
  • Experience developing, improving and implementing EHS programs. Experience with LOTO required.
  • Ability to influence culture while communicating effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of reducing recordable incidents and workers comp claims.


  • Responsible for all aspects of safety, including OSHA, safety meetings, safety audits, and accident investigations
  • Participate in auditing and evaluating the effectiveness of EHS management systems and compliance

  1. Incumbent will have primary responsibility to develop and implement site EH&S programs and objectives in alignment with company business objectives and sustainability goals.
  2. Develops, maintains and continuously improves standard operating procedures, and plans to help ensure continued facility and organization EH&S compliance.
  3. Maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections.
  4. Manages the EH&S training programs, determines EH&S training needs, develops and facilitates training, and works with site management to ensure ongoing training compliance.
  5. Co-ordinates industrial hygiene, life safety, and ergonomic compliance-related activities.
  6. Leads and manages the Emergency Response Team (ERT), providing 24 hour emergency response support to the facility.
  7. Responsible for the Hazardous Material Management Program at the facility.
  8. Develops and maintains site information management systems to identify, track, evaluate and communicate information regarding environment, health & safety issues and action plans.
  9. Interacts with others in the administration of the worker’s compensation program and the implementation of workplace ergonomics and program solutions.
  10. Conducts safety surveys and recommends corrective action where occupational hazards exist.
  11. Responds to emergencies and investigates accidents and recommends corrective action.
  12. Completes required federal, state and local government reports relating to EH&S.
  13. Plans and administers safety training programs to ensure employee awareness of safe working conditions, practices, proper use of safety equipment, fire prevention and protection, and other employee safety procedures.
  14. Recommends safety standards for the handling, storage and transportation of hazardous materials and waste.
  15. Investigates accidents, analyzes causes and recommends changes in procedures, practices, methods, environmental conditions or equipment to prevent recurrence.
  16. Assists with the Hazardous Waste Management program.
