EHS Consultant

EHS Consultant

Growing safety solutions consulting firm in San Diego seek an EHS consultant in San Diego area.  Successful candidate should have previous experience in fire safety, biological safety, chemical safety, hazardous materials permitting and safety program implementation.  This position can be part time or full time based on candidate preferences and business conditions.

 Job Duties

  • Regularly perform training courses in occupational health, safety, and environmental topics. Examples include, but are not limited to hazard communication/chemical hygiene, biological safety, Cal-OSHA compliance, and RCRA/Title 22 hazardous waste management
  • Perform informal audits/assessments of client’s sites to assess compliance and effectiveness of health, safety, and environmental programs and management systems
  • Update company training materials and electronic reminder data-base
  • Maintain environmental permits. Successful candidate must have experience with updates and implementation of CUPA/CERS (California Environmental Reporting System)
  • Update and maintain client chemical inventories, SDS’s, and FPB-500 Chemical Classification Reports.
  • Report to the President and project managers for client support.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ years field experience dealing with hazardous materials management and Cal/OSHA regulations
  • Passion for safety and self-improvement
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling/safety
  • Knowledge of DOT and EPA regulations and Fire/Building codes
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Excellent public speaking/instruction skills
  • Self-starter, organized, and have excellent project management skills
  • Customer/client focused

 Job Description:

 Assists in the design and implementation of the Environmental, Health and Safety programs for the entire campus and surrounding communities. Performs skilled level work throughout the full spectrum of environmental, health and safety issues as directed by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. Assists in the compliant implementation of City/County/State and Federal regulations. Conducts and documents inspections on: Fire safety equipment, eyewash and safety showers, laboratory safety, general building occupancy and hazardous waste areas. Will provide safety training as mandated in a variety of subject matters such as new employee orientation, hazardous waste handling, ergonomics, environmental compliance and confined space. Provides follow-up investigation on incidents and injuries, including developing corrective action plans and tracking items to closure. Serves as a member of the Emergency Preparedness team and other safety related committees.

This position operates under the close supervision of the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety.

Recruiting Cal/OSHA Safety and Health Inspectors

 The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is hiring health and safety inspectors throughout the state. These are field positions that conduct compliance inspections in many different settings and consult with employers on a wide range of health and safety issues.

Assistant Safety Engineer $5,723 – $7,160, plus differential*
Associate Safety Engineer $7,482 – $9,360
Junior Industrial Hygienist $3,788 – $4,932
Assistant Industrial Hygienist $4,437 – $6,063
Associate Industrial Hygienist $5,364 – $7,326

*Junior Safety Engineers and Assistant Safety Engineers receive a recruitment and retention pay differential of $200 per month.
